Future looks ROSY for Delta Lloyd’s

Gert-Jan Portier Projectleider Delta Lloyd Leven:

““The efficient and flexible system we now have in place will really give us the edge when it comes to introducing new forms of life insurance." ”

Assignment

COOLProfs was asked to supply an architect/software engineer to add to the strengths of Delta Lloyd's project team for the proposed enhancement of the ROSY system. In addition, COOLProfs was asked to carry out interim project and system audits and to advise Delta Lloyd on the resilience of the system, designed to handle registration of and changes to traditional life insurance policies

Motivation

In September 2003, a project was started to phase out the obsolescent system Daisy, used for the administration of traditional life insurance policies. The main rationale for this was high maintenance costs and time-consuming data entry. It was decided to add the new functionality to the insurance transaction system ROSY, which had been built using AllFusion Gen. To ensure the best possible system, capable of incorporating future developments, they called in the expertise of COOLProfs.

Approach

It was decided to deliver the desired functionality in three phases. For this, a team was put together with COOLProfs fulfilling the role of architect/software engineer to address the core system issues. Every nine months a new release was put into production as per the agreement.

During the project, interim project and system audits were carried out targeted at the architecture and ease of maintenance of ROSY as the definitive system for life insurance policies.The main considerations were its maintainability while implementing two to four changes in regulations each year, and the ability to take advantage of developments in the systems arena and support new insurance products.

Now that the project has been completed, the technical application management of ROSY is being carried out by a management team from COOLProfs.

Results

  • The new releases of the ROSY system were of consistently high quality and delivered on time;
  • The old system Daisy has been phased out successfully, resulting in a big annual cost saving for Delta Lloyd;
  • Ease of use has been greatly enhanced, which means the business can be focused more on customers and on developing new life insurance products.
