New training system ‘in highest state of readiness’ with StyleAdapter

Assignment

To develop a presentation layer for the new management system ‘Prometheus' for the Education and Training Command (OTCo).

Motivation

In order to improve efficiency and reduce costs, DTO integrated the existing management systems in thirteen locations into a new web-based system built with AllFusion Gen.

To help the 2,000 users of Prometheus quickly get to grips with the new system, it was decided to make the ‘look and feel' of this system intuitive and user friendly.

Approach

As a result of the long-standing successful working relationship between DTO and COOLProfs, DTO decided to use StyleAdapter for the presentation layer.

COOLProfs assisted the DTO staff with the implementation of StyleAdapter. For the most part the technical aspects were handled by COOLProfs allowing DTO to concentrate on the requirements of the end-users.

Based on specifications, graphics designs and colour schemes put together by the project team, COOLProfs came up with the initial prototype. In less than two months a complete presentation layer had been developed with list boxes, a 3D-effect login screen, a menu and a new house style.

• The presentation layer was delivered ahead of schedule which allowed the users to test it extensively;

• Without StyleAdapter each screen would have taken half a day to develop whereas now the presentation layer was installed at the touch of a button. This time saving translated into considerable cost savings;

• The presentation layer has had a positive effect on user perceptions. The professional look of the system has increased user acceptance;

• The user friendliness of the system has been enhanced by the addition of list boxes, menu and login screen;

• The decision for StyleAdapter also means that the presentation layer is separate from the application. Any changes in the outward appearance of the web application are now made in the presentation layer and not in the application itself. This makes it easier to maintain and modify the application.
