Kadaster Migrates to HP-UX Platform
The Netherlands, November 5, 2009 – After large ICT service providers phased out development and support of Kadaster’s existing platform, the company, which registers property in the Netherlands, has migrated to an entirely new platform. This new HP-UX platform can handle the SAP environment and all the applications. HP carried out the project and Gen-specialist COOLProfs was enlisted to handle the Gen-application work.
Kadaster’s system is unique; it is the only one in the Netherlands that allows for large-scale geodetic or surveying information to be coupled with administrative information. With this unique attribute in mind, Kadaster has made sure its knowledge and experience remains at a level that makes it balanced and able to react adequately and quickly when necessary to deal with external parties if support is required to better prevent and solve problems.
This became necessary when Kadaster decided to migrate its existing Tru64-platform to a new one. A migration became more necessary as talk of software providers such as Oracle, HP, SAP, BEA Systems and CA phasing out the support of Kadaster’s platform became louder.
The solution was found in a direct migration to a new platform, HP-UX, the SAP environment and all applications. HP received the assignment to carry out the migration. After HP had implemented the new hardware line and carried out the SAP migration, Kadaster began with the application migration. A portion of the applications were composed, more or less, from Gen. The fact that Gen for the new platform was available in a 32-bit version while Kadaster ran everything on 64-bits created problems.
In order to solve these problems, COOLProfs, a true Gen-specialist was called on to help. Despite the fact that Kadaster had been forced by outside circumstances to move to a new platform, and despite the Gen-problem, the project was recently finished with good results.
Hans van Oijen, project manager at Kadaster, reflects on the project: “I am happy that COOLProfs solved the 32-bits problem. If we look back at the Gen project, in the end it all came out well. The project was completed and delivered within the new time frame and budget.”
An expanded article with all the ‘in’s and out’s” about Kadaster’s migration will appear in the Novermber issue of AppWorks magazine; The industry magazine that covers the world of applications.
